Norm’s Notes |
November 8, 2012 |
Thoughts on the ElectionHere is the best thing I have read concerning the election. This comes from John Piper:
“So it is with voting. There are losses. We mourn. But not as those who have no hope. We vote and we lose, or we vote and we win. In either case, we win or lose as if we were not winning or losing. Our expectations and frustrations are modest. The best this world can offer is short and small. The worst it can offer has been predicted in the book of The Revelations. And no vote will hold it back.”

Shoebox Deadline Extended
We have extended the Operation Christmas Child shoebox deadline to this Sunday, November 11. Our goal is 700 boxes. We gave out about 600 empty boxes; to date we have received 472. We are looking for 130 more by Sunday! |
Bethlehem Marketplace
Pick up all the printed BMP publicity you can give away. There are various sizes, all on the bulletin table in the foyer. It is all printed in the FMC office and can be replenished quickly, so take what you can use.
Also, consider mentioning BMP in your company publication, or include it in your product package. There is a pizza place in town that is including a piece of BMP literature in every pizza box and the manager does not even attend FMC (yet) but he has been to BMP.
Use BMP info at the bottom of all your emails. Include thislink to the BMP page on FMC’s website. While we advertise BMP extensively, it is still word of mouth that works best. Don’t forget Facebook, too! |
A “Daily Bread” Story
As most of you know, I was raised on a farm. Just for fun I sometimes watch farm machinery videos on youtube. The farm machinery they have today makes the things I had on the farm look like match box toys. I remember in high school farmers getting 100 bushels an acre of corn which was unheard until then. Watch this video, 2011 harvest, right over here in Illinois. This farmer gets 230 bushel an acre and harvests 50,000 bushels in a ten hour day. Wow. Thank God for the American farmer. This might not mean much to some but I am working on this week’s sermon – “Give us this day our daily bread”. God uses the American farmer more than any other group to give more people in the world daily bread. I love my farmers at FMC!

Another “Daily Bread” Story
Our fellow Missionary Church in Nappanee is doing a 2,000,000 meal packing event for “Feed my Starving Children”, like we will do in the spring of 2013, only ours will be 100,000. Here is a link to a live video feed of their event, going on this week. Theirs is a Monday through Saturday event, with 8,000 worker slots and a cost of $440,000. |

Text Message
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (msg)
“A devout life does bring wealth, but it’s the rich simplicity of being yourself before God. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet, that’s enough.”
