Some Thoughts about Praying

While reading my morning devotions this week, Psalm 5:4 jumped out at me: “You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil, with you no wickedness can dwell.” We all know that wickedness and God’s presence cannot be in the same place at the same time. Darkness and light do not occupy the same spot at the same time.

That truth has me praying differently this week about the possible wickedness that wants to come to our community just a mile from the church. Instead of just praying that the wickedness would be stopped, I add to my prayers that God’s presence would be felt and seen there. The only way the darkness of wickedness is stopped is with the bright light of God’s righteous holiness. We all pray every time we drive by that spot. I encourage you to add a new line to your prayers – that God’s presence would be there too.
