No Name People I Want to Meet Some Day

As we read our Bible we come across people whose names are unknown to us yet their stories were written in God’s eternal Word centuries ago, thus are still being retold today. Each time the story is retold, these no names are still being rewarded in eternity for their obedience centuries ago. I mention just three.

1.  The widow who put her last half penny in the offering as Jesus watched (Luke 21:1-4). We do not know her name. No offering has ever been multiplied into more blessing for the giver than that one. I want to meet her someday.

2.  The man from Macedonia who was begging God to send someone to help him spread the gospel (Acts 16:6-10). With the answer to that prayer the gospel goes into Europe and even to us down through history. No missionary prayer has ever been more multiplied than that one.

3.  The boy with the lunch of five small loaves and two fish that Jesus multiplied into a banquet for 5,000 (John 6:1-15). We don’t know his name either but no lunch was ever multiplied so much. I want to meet him in heaven some day. Many more could be mentioned.

Do you ever feel that no one even notices what you do? No one sees your prayers being answered. No one recognizes what you do behind the scenes. That, of course, is not true. God sees your prayers, your service for Him, and because of it, generations are blessed by it. Never underestimate the generational impact of your obedience even though the generation you are serving doesn’t even know your name.

Two items on my prayer list:
1.  Volunteer workers in the children’s department. If you feel you want to answer that prayer, contact Miss Jessica by email or phone, 665-8402.

2. Teachers for young adult small churches this fall. If you feel led to answer that prayer, email me or give me a call at the church, 665-8402.

Have you noticed the billboards in northern Indiana advertizing Christian talent search? Visit the website that goes with the billboards. The idea behind the talent search is a winner.

We get many different benevolence requests at the church. A unique one we got last week was from a local car dealer raising $2,000 for a car for a couple who are both disabled but can drive. As of today they have raised $1,600 toward the goal. If you would like to help, just put your special gift marked “car” in the offering.

“He said, ‘The plain truth is that this widow has given by far the largest offering today. All these others made offerings that they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford – she gave her all!'”
Matthew 26:13 (NIV)
