Norm’s Notes                                                                                                             January 5, 2018

Random Notes…

The funeral for Helen Spencer was at the church this week. Joe and Helen have been attending Fairview for about 5 years. She was 68 years old. In all her adult years, Helen never left her house without having her long hair curled and looking perfect. When they lived in Iowa, their 40 acre woods was down the road from property previously owned by mobster Al Capone and where Capone had a distillery. Helen bought a metal detector and scanned the road where she found many foreign coins.

Joe and Helen are one of those couples I wish could have been a part of Fairview for 20 or 30 years. Churches are built by people like them with their kind, caring, Godly attitudes.

As you read your Bible, do you ever have questions about what it was like to experience certain events? One question I ponder is – what does it sound like when God walks? Genesis 3:8, Adam and Eve heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden. Was it a soft walk, gentle? Was he talking to the birds and the bees in the garden? The Bible says the earth is His foot stool so He potentially has very large feet and could leave a super huge foot print as He walks. Ponder this in your family or your small group. What does it sound like when God walks near by?

Another question I ponder in my heart comes from Matthew 26:11 where it says “The poor you will always have with you”. Why are some people always struggling to make ends meet? They don’t want to be that way. Why can’t they ever dig out of the situation they are in? My heart goes out to them. Ponder this question in your heart and family and small group. Why are the poor always with us?
