Gone to his eternal home
Lee Busch passed away while shoveling snow last Friday. He was 73 years old. Lee and his wife, Kathi, moved to Steuben County from the Valparaiso area about five years ago. I still remember a conversation I had with him while we were helping set up the Easter set in 2014. I asked him what had brought him to our area. He said he studied the best places to retire in all of the mid west and our county was the best lake area to retire in. Then I asked him what brought him to Fairview. He said he attended many churches in the area to find the best church. He said he had never seen a church staff that actually worked at setting up things like Easter sets and Bethlehem Marketplace. Or where everyone loved everyone and everyone was friendly.
Lee ushered in aisle #2 on the north side of the church. He also washed dishes at Wednesday night grill and was in the Easter musical for four years. He worked part time at Meijer giving away samples and he often brought leftover spoons, napkins, and toys to the church and they ended up in daycare. He had an extreme servant’s heart and loved working behind the scenes. Well done, Lee.

Linda and I have been on vacation in Florida where we attended the Fairview Florida picnic (see photo here). The Sunday before we went on vacation (January 28), there was a couple sitting behind us that I had never seen at FMC. I asked them how long they have been attending and they said 5-6 weeks. Then I asked them what brought them here. Their response was they liked the preacher. I saw another couple I had never seen before. Same question – how long have you been attending? Same answer – 5-6 weeks. What brought you here? Same answer – we like the preacher. Then I saw a lady sitting by herself in the back row. I had never seen her before. Same question – how long have you been attending? 5-6 weeks. What brought you? I like the preacher. I don’t think these five people know one another but they all gave the same answers and they all started attending church at about the same time – either Christmas or Bethlehem Marketplace. We all know the verse in the Bible that says everything must be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Therefore, let it be established on the testimony of these three, along with 795 others, we like the preacher and his family!
