Yesterday we had the Celebration of Life for Ed Shawver. Here are some things I learned about Ed. He always held his wife, Janet’s hand during church. The only time he ever borrowed money was to buy their house in 1971. It cost him $22,500. He had $12,000 for a down payment and he paid the rest off in five years. And Ed loved cats. They had five indoor cats and 11 or 12 outdoor cats. He made a styrofoam cat condo for the outdoor cats to stay warm on the 20 below zero nights. Well done, Ed. Well done.

I am getting settled into my new office and one of the historic things I found in moving was VCR tapes of old services – moving from Williams Street to this location, Linda’s and my 25th anniversary, the church’s 75th anniversary, and the kids’ musical “Down by the Creek Bank”. You will see part of these this fall.

I had a saintly grandma in my office this week. We were talking about everything and she mentioned she was in a Bible study with her granddaughters – all conducted with a closed group link on Facebook. Her granddaughters live in Huntington and Wakarusa, Indiana, Iowa, and Oregon. This is really good. Others should try that with their distant family.
