Norm’s Notes May 8, 2014

This is what’s happening in my life this week.

Linda and I went to a craft show last Saturday in South Bend. Two of our granddaughters, Aislynn and Isla, 8 and 6 years old, were in it with a booth called Sweet Sisters. They were selling over-sized Rice Krispie treats and over-sized cookies for $1 each. The show was to end at 4:00. We got there at 2:00 and the girls had only 5 items left to sell so I asked if I could buy all 5 of them. Aislynn tells me, “no, Grandpa, you cannot buy them all, there may be others who want some.” So I bought only one Rice Krispie treat. A little later I noticed the girls had each taken a cookie over to the young boys who were offering pony rides for a dollar. They traded their cookies for pony rides. They sold out of every- thing they had and made $31 each after paying for their supplies. These kids know how to make a buck!

This Sunday is Mother’s Day. My mother passed away about 7 years ago. I still remember some of the things my mother said to me. When I would stand in front of the refrigerator with the door open looking for some- thing to eat – “Don’t stand there with the door open.” When I started preaching without a suit coat on – “Did you preach in that today?” and “I wish you would not let people call you Norm. Your name is Norman.”

If your mom is in Heaven, do you still remember what she used to say to you?

This Sunday we will have flowers and Rise and Roll donut holes for all the mothers. Guys, we still get Tom’s donut holes.

A relatively new attender came up to me last night and said he needed to apologize to me. I asked him what he had done. He said he had been watching the historical video (2005 Easter drama video) playing in the foyer and he asked someone nearby who the thin politician was in the black suit with dark hair talking at the end of the Easter cantata. The guy standing next to him said, “why, that’s Pastor Norm.” The new attender had not recognized me. We’ve all changed, haven’t we?
