Norm’s Notes June 30, 2017
Stories of some of the people who have crossed my path in recent days:
1. I called a service man to come to my house to look at my air conditioner. It turned out to be a God sighting for both of us. He told me when he shows up for work everyday, he has no idea where his company is going to send him. When he saw my name on his service list, he was anticipating wanting to talk to me. We had never met before. He has been in Steuben County only 18 months but he knew my name was connected with Fairview Missionary Church. He even called his wife and told her, “You’re never going to guess whose house I am going to today.” FMC has been the topic of discussion in that house. His family is still church shopping. They had been at FMC just once, Easter, invited by another Fairview family while he was on a service call to their house. While coming to my house, he listened to Pastor Joel’s message from last Sunday online in his service truck. We talked while he worked. His family make up is “older” parents with a young child. I told him I could connect him with others at the very same spot as his in life. Yes, we have a small group for mature parents with young children. The whole conversation was a divine appointment for both of us. He said I would see his family soon. You know what his wife liked about the church when she visited on Easter? How close the nursery was to the front door.
What divine encounter have you had lately? I’d love to hear about it.
2. Another person that came across my path was a young man from 4 County Transitional Living house. From time to time we have some of these men come to work at the church for $7 an hour to make money for their rent for a week until they can get a permanent job. What touched me was the way he always said “Pastor”. It was always with respect. I cannot describe it but this young man had a sense about him that told me he had been in touch with a pastor before.
We talked about his Baptist church upbringing and where he is now in life. I pray he gets on the right track.
3. A young lady youth pastor from Germany stopped in. She is staying with our counselor Jan King and came to FMC to help with sports camp this week. Conservative, evangelical, she is youth pastor over a group of churches in Germany. She has a real heart for the Lord. I invited her to our patriotic service Sunday so she could see how the American church celebrates July 4th and patriotism. She was not sure how she should act in the service. I told her whatever she does will be just fine. So if you see a tall lady who looks like she could be from Germany, and she does not say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and she does not put her hand over her heart, that is probably her. Be sure to welcome her.
4. This one is a hard one. I got a phone call from a single mother whose 3 week old baby suddenly died. The father of the baby is not in the picture at all. She has no resources for a funeral. She simply wants to be left alone. She is totally overwhelmed with no support system. This one is still unfolding as I write this. Please pray for her.
These are some of the people God has brought across my path. Who has He brought across your path?
