I listened again to Don Riley’s message from Sunday, May 28. I encourage you to listen to it on our website too, to prepare your heart for Give It All Away Sunday. I asked Donny to tell me how much money he needs to fund everything on their list. He sheepishly told me $42,000. He was afraid he was asking for too much. I told him, “let our people do it for you.”

I took a VIP tour of the new Family Dollar Distribution Center in Ashley last Friday. They do not give public tours, I just happened to know the right person to make this happen for me. I’ve never seen anything like it. If I remember right, there are eight miles of conveyor belts, all computerized to move 30,000 boxes an hour, 16 hours a day. At one point all these boxes form a single line and three conveyor belts operate at different speeds to separate each box by about six inches so the scanner does not get confused. I stopped and watched that for a few minutes. I guess those conveyors at that point were running 25 miles per hour. Then those boxes are pushed down one of 40 conveyor belts to the guys who are loading the semis. That warehouse serves 500 stores. To see it all work so fast was amazing. I heard about a new author at FMC, August Beuhrer, who wrote three science fiction books before she was 19 years old. She is just in her early 20’s now. I would like to put together a list of FMC authors. If you attend FMC and have written a book (or books), let me know.
