Norm’s Notes                                                                                   August 18, 2016

Some of the things to come my way in the last week or so…

St. Mark Missionary Church in Mishawaka, Indiana, is starting a Thursday night worship service with full children’s programming – just like a Sunday morning service. One of the reasons for doing this is because there are so many broken families in the area that when the kids go with the other parent for the weekend, they often do not go to church. Thus the kids may be going to church every other weekend, if that. With the Thursday night service, the parent who wants the kids in church has that option.

Many parents are sending their kids off to school or college. This link is very good for parents. It comes from my daughter-in-law, Jessica. You have to “put the basket in the water” for God to draw the child to Himself.

We all like Pastor Joel’s excitement for Revive Steuben. Here’s what’s happening as Revive spreads into Darke County,Ohio. Their services start at 7 p.m. Most of the Greenville (Ohio) high school football team was baptized last week.

I learned a new term last Saturday – Pufferbelly. It was on the Fort Wayne TV news and they were talking about a 5k run down the old railroad track now converted to a walking / running trail. When I first heard the term, I thought it was the latest politically correct term for people with big bellies who want to participate in a 5k run. You know what I mean – beer bellies, bulges in the middle, hangovers, and overweight, etc. I thought someone somewhere in the politically correct arena came up with a soft gentle term to put us all in the same category. I got online to find the real meaning of the term. In the slang dictionary it is someone who has eaten too many marshmallows and blueberry pie – like at an eating contest at the county fair. But the term was originally used to describe a steam locomotive which would have a big belly and would puff its way down the tracks. Pufferbelly. Now we all learned something.

The Second Chance Resale Furniture Store is open at Project Help: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. (Closed Sundays) It is nearly full of good furniture but things move quickly. There were five nice couches that sold in one week. I counted 15 end tables. Nice dining room chairs. If you don’t like the price ask for the “Pastor Norm special” and they may lower it for you. Or call me when you want to go to the store and if I am free, I can make a deal for you. Also, remember your purchase helps buy food for the under-resourced of Steuben County.
