Norm’s Notes September 22, 2016
Random thoughts from here and there …
Thought 1 – Facebook
I wish people would stop exaggerating about the already bad news in the world on their Facebook pages – using over the top language is not an effective way to communicate. And while I’m at it, if you only get on Facebook once a week, please don’t forward any of the world’s news. All the rest of us have already seen it six times. Just saying…
Thought 2 – Conflict Resolution
When you hear only one side, remember “there is no pancake so thin that it does not have two sides.”
Thought 3 – Super Big
The new geothermal heating system on Notre Dame’s campus consists of 700 wells, each 300 feet deep, to provide a heating / cooling system that is always 54 degrees. That is super big!
Thought 4: Holiday meals for the under-resourced of Steuben County
Project Help is in need of $15,000 to provide holiday meals to 900 families. Your gift made payable to Project Help and dropped in the FMC offering is much appreciated.
Thought 5: FMC is growing
I put a personal note in the mailboxes of about two dozen new attender families inviting them to be a part of Bethlehem Marketplace. According to our church records, some of the families attend 95% of the time and I could not put a name and face together. I did not even recognize the names. It is hard for me to keep the new young families straight. Thank you, young families, for your patience with me.
Thought 6: Discipleship
One of the best all time lessons on discipleship I have seen or heard is Andy Stanley’s second lesson in the Follow series. I am doing this series on Wednesday nights and lesson 2 was last night’s lesson.
Thought 7: The World is Changing
The Christian, English speaking part of the world (Europe, Americas, etc.) is being radically changed by Muslim immigration. It is nearly impossible to mix these two religions and impossible to mix the cultures these religions created separately before the mixing attempt. This mixing attempt is the closest thing I have seen to Daniel’s vision of the statue and the ten toes of iron and clay mixed in the final kingdom on earth before Christ returns. See Daniel 2:41-44.
Thought 8: One more thing…
I am studying for a message for October 23 about “How big is God?” God is big enough to remember all the thoughts of all the people all the time. Experts say we can have up to 80,000 thoughts a day. Multiply that by 7,000,000,000 people on earth and then by the 70 year life span and you get some idea of how big the mind of God is at remembering. Yet He forgets my sins because of Christ.
Those are my thoughts this morning. What are yours?
